Description
The same scale has been used to find out about young people's interest in politics since 1996. For the purpose of comparison, respondents below the age of 18 have been excluded from the latest figures, as in some earlier surveys the lower age limit for the youngest age group was 18 years. A clear trend over a 16-year period emerges from the chart: interest in politics among young people between the ages of 18 and 29 increased from the 1990s until the early 2000s. After a small dip, it rose sharply before levelling off again.
According to the latest survey, carried out in 2018, the proportion of those at least somewhat interested in politics is larger, while the proportion of those entirely indifferent is smaller than ever before monitored over a period of more than 20 years. In addition to a growing interest in politics, trust in social institutions has also strengthened.
